For over twenty years, Joanne Friday has been practicing in the tradition of Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh. She was ordained as a lay member of Thay Nhat Hanh’s Tiep Hien Order or the Order of Interbeing in 1999 and received the name Chan Lac Thi or "True Joy of Giving." At Thay’s invitation, Joanne became a Dharma teacher in 2003. A retired counselor, teacher, and visual artist, Joanne is currently the guiding teacher for the six sanghas that comprise the Rhode Island Community of Mindfulness, mentor to many students of Thich Nhat Hanh, and Associate Chaplain for the Buddhist community at the University of Rhode Island. As a senior Dharma teacher in the Order of Interbeing, she has served on the Care Taking Council of the Dharma Teachers Sangha of North America.
